We have had an exciting term learning all about Ancient Greece. We have been exploring the question: How has Ancient Greece influenced the modern, western world? Did you know that your Pandora bracelet and Hermes delivery service all stem from Ancient Greek Gods and Goddesses!?

The children have been motivated to write their own story inspired by the Ancient Greek myths that we have read throughout the term. They were interested to discover the Greek origin of some the characters they love from the world of film and TV.

We have loved the level of enthusiasm that the children have shown for Times Tables Rock Stars and Numbots. We have noticed the impact this is having on their mental calculation skills in Maths.

We concluded our English sessions for this term with a heated debate as to whether life would have been better in Ancient Athens or Ancient Sparta. It has been interesting to hear different perspectives from the children based on their learning about the roles of men, women and children in Ancient Greece.

In Design & Technology this term, we have been exploring how Ancient Greece has influenced modern day footwear. We had great fun designing and making our own sandals on our topic day. We hope you have enjoyed looking at their creations.

On our topic day, we also tasted some traditional Greek foods. This received a mixed response – especially to the olives and figs! We are sure there might be a few requests to add some of the items to your next shopping list!

We would like to say a huge thank you for the wonderful array of creative costumes that the children wore! They were all so different and imaginative! We will be exploring Ancient Egypt in Term 6, so keep the togas and tunics handy!
