Life in Lilac Class

Term 5 newsletter – Year 3

We have had a brilliant term learning about Superheroes. Excitingly, we created our own superheroes and villains and wrote our own action stories – these were then turned into play scripts, which we all enjoyed acting out!

We all enjoyed our trip to Fairfield Animal Centre. The children behaved impeccably throughout the day, and staff and other visitors at the centre commented upon this. During the day, they had the opportunity to apply their knowledge from Science lessons last term, as well as answer quiz questions about a range of other animals. We also conducted some Geography fieldwork about the different types of plants growing in the field. It was a lovely opportunity to share, talk and socialise over a delicious picnic lunch! Thank you so much to all of our volunteers.

We have enjoyed investigating what makes plants grow and have successfully watched some seeds germinate. A highlight of our topic has been exploring how water is transported through a plant/flower. We have been following the process of the transportation of water through a flower by using food colouring. We are looking forward to continuing this topic next term!

In Maths, we have been learning the very important life skill of telling the time. We have noticed some analogue watches appear on the arms of a few children, so we thank you for your support with teaching your child to tell the time at home. It really is a skill that needs continuous practice, so please keep it up!!

In Design and Technology, we have been learning about levers and linkages. Following a process of designing and making a prototype, the children have created a moving poster to advertise a Superhero book or film. They had to use careful measuring and cutting skills to ensure the mechanisms would work, and there was plenty of learning achieved through the process of trial and error!

We were also lucky enough to welcome an external tennis coach to work with the children this term. We will look out for Grove alumni at Wimbledon in years to come!
