Life in Hawthorn Class
We have had such a whirlwind of a term in year 2! It has been jam-packed full of trips, learning and so much fun!
Our topic this term has been based on the book ‘Where the Wild Things Are’. In English, we have worked hard to retell the original story using drama and our descriptive writing skills. We have also created our own sequels to the story, creating a new adventure for Max to go on and new characters for him to meet. These stories have been truly incredible to read and we are so proud of how much progress the children have made in their writing this year!
In our DT lessons, we have been working hard to create a picture showing the Wild Things and the Wild Things’ Island! We have made levers to introduce an interactive element to our pictures.
This term we have been lucky enough to go on two amazing trips. At the start of the term, we went to the wonderful Trowbridge Library where we shared stories together and some of us even checked out a new book to read at home! Of course, we could not forget our trip to the Wild Place Project in Bristol. We had the best day exploring and learning all about the different animals they look after. Thank you to both Trowbridge Library and the Wild Place Project for having us and making our days so enjoyable.
We also took part in our World Book Day activities where we were lucky enough to share a story with the EYFS and KS1 teachers in the afternoon! We were super cosy in our PJs and really enjoyed the ‘Change and Adapt’ themed stories and activities. This linked brilliantly to Science Week as the theme this year was also ‘Change and Adapt’.
Finally, we all dressed up in red to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of Red Nose Day. Mrs Gingell organised for music to be played on the playground at Lunchtime and we were able to sing and dance to some of our favourite songs! It was so much fun and a brilliant way to celebrate 40 years of Red Nose Day.
We have had the most amazing term together in Year 2 and we look forward to seeing you all after the Easter holidays. Our topic in Term 5 will be ‘Antarctica’ and we are SNOW excited to learn all about the brilliant continent with you!
