Life in Hawthorn Class
Wow! What a whirlwind of a second term we have had in Year 2! We are both so proud of all that has been achieved by our wonderful classes.
In English, we have worked hard to create thrilling adventure stories. Our stories were based in a magical land we worked hard to create, and followed our main characters as they got lost in a new world! Everyone really showed us their creative side and our stories were full of amazing adjectives.
In Maths, we have continued our topic of addition and subtraction. We have used lots of resources and different methods to add and subtract 2 digit numbers. Now we have moved on to learning all about 2D and 3D shapes and their properties. We have learnt new vocabulary such as edges, vertices and sides.
In DT, we have put our sewing skills to the test by designing and making our very own birds. We learnt how to thread a needle and have even attempted a back stitch! Sewing our birds required lots of patience and focus, which allowed us all to end up with our own special bird decoration to take home.
Of course, one thing we have all worked super hard to achieve this term is our Nativity! Without a doubt, this was the highlight of our term. From dancing camels, to shining stars and our wonderful judges, our Nativity truly had a star-studded line up! We are so proud of everyone for learning their lines, songs and dance moves. It was truly a joy to see everyone being so brave and putting themselves forward for these roles.
The festive fun did not end there! In Year 2, we have been learning all about the Christmas story in RE and understanding why we celebrate Christmas. We have seen how Christmas might be celebrated all around the world, and taken part in discussions about how we celebrate Christmas ourselves. We have also created Christmas cards for our loved ones, made some beautiful Christmas crafts and taken part in our fabulous Christmas disco.
It’s safe to say that this term has been full of fun for us in Year 2, and we are so proud of how the children are continuing to thrive and grow. We hope everyone has a happy and healthy Christmas, and we can’t wait to see you next year for Term 3 where we will be learning all about the Victorians!
