The Grove Primary School

Year 6

Hazel and Walnut

Continuing our focus on volcanoes from Term 4, the children developed their skills to create a descriptive narrative based on escaping a volcanic eruption. The emphasis was using figurative language such as personification, similes and metaphors. They also needed to portray characters through dialogue and set the scene using ‘show not tell’ techniques.

The Year 6 children showed a wonderful commitment to the Spelling Bee challenge, raising money for their end of year celebrations – a big thank you to everyone who supported the children (including an ex-Grover!) in their learning of so many words. It was perfect mixture of learning and fun!

To enhance the children’s understanding of the Industrial Revolution, and its impact on Trowbridge, they were able to visit Trowbridge Museum and learn about the woollen industry and how the town has changed over time. This was a fantastic opportunity to see local landmarks and architecture relevant to the time period.

An important part of the term has been the SATS assessments, throughout which the children have demonstrated commitment, resilience and focus. We could not have asked for more from our children! We are incredibly proud of everything they have achieved!
