Year One have loved finishing their ‘Commotion in the Ocean’ topic this term, and we have learnt and achieved so much over the last six weeks!

In English, we have been writing lots of sentences about the Titanic. We wrote postcards to our families explaining the wonderful time we were having on board and created newspaper reports describing the events of the Titanic. The results were fantastic, and we are very proud of how our writing skills have developed. We worked incredibly hard to publish our newspapers and loved tea-staining them to make them look authentic!

In Maths, we have enjoyed lots of practical learning this term. We have spent plenty of time outdoors investigating capacity and creating our own arrays using natural materials. We have also been learning to count confidently in 2s, 5s and 10s.

In Science, we learnt about the amazing contributions animals make to our planet. We explored the characteristics of different animal groups and worked together to create animal hotels suitable for their needs.

We have become very passionate about protecting our environment and understand the importance of putting litter in the bin or taking it home with us. We even designed our own posters to encourage others not to litter!

In Design and Technology, we learnt how to join materials using a running stitch. We then stuffed and decorated our felt fish, and they looked amazing!

In Art and Design, we explored different printing techniques, including monoprinting, block printing and wax relief printing. We really enjoyed discovering how different materials created different effects and prints.

In RE, we learnt about Judaism and the importance of Shabbat for Jewish children. We set the table and even pretended to have our very own Shabbat celebration!

We are so proud of everything we have achieved this term, and we cannot wait to see you all in Term 6 for our exciting new topic, ‘Off, Off, Off, We Go!’
