Wow! We have had another busy term in Year One!

This term, we have continued our topic, ‘All Under One Roof’! We started the term by exploring ‘Coming to England’ by Floella Benjamin, which the children found very interesting. We then moved on to ‘The Secret Garden’, a story we all found magical. Using this book, the children wrote sentences to retell the story in their own words. We have been so impressed with how neat everyone’s writing has become and all the incredible work they have created.

In Maths, we have explored addition, subtraction and place value within 20. The children have worked hard to practice counting forwards and backwards to 20 and they have been learning their number bonds to 20!

In PSHE, our focus has been on Keeping Safe. The children spoke thoughtfully about the people that can help us as well as the importance of things such as a good sleep routine.

In Art and Design, we began the term by creating a self-portrait in the style of Picasso. We then measured and designed a frame for our self-portraits to go in using the style of Yayoi Kusama. The children loved looking at everyone’s art work on display and talking about how they made their self-portraits look unrealistic.

Throughout the term, the children have also been busy completing their Continuous Provision challenges each week. We have been so impressed by their creativity, teamwork, and determination. They have truly demonstrated our school value of aspire.

We ended the term with some Computing. We focussed on the skills of programming a floor robot, using algorithms to ensure our robots moved across the floor in the directions we need it to.

Finally, we cannot forget our incredible 6 weeks of Forest School with Mrs Fobbester. We have been so lucky to be able to go out into the Forest each week and take part in so many fun activities.
