The Grove Primary School

Year 5

Cedar and Willow

Year 5 have been out of this world!

Year 5 have had an amazing term exploring all things space travel. They started off the term writing reports about Spectacular Saturn and produced newspaper articles about Mr Woodburn mysteriously being abducted by aliens. Alongside all of their wonderful writing, the topic has given the classes opportunities to expand their scientific knowledge. They learnt about the moon phases by creating their own versions of them using lots of Oreo biscuits and a real highlight was when a mobile planetarium came in to the school for the children to really explore the Solar System in a more detailed and close up manner, learning about each planet, the stars and about the stories that the Greeks created based on the constellations. They also enjoyed creating various pieces of art inspired by space, using lots of different mediums such as: chalk, paper-mache and Modroc, and paints. This included designing and making their own 3D planets!

Well done to the whole of Year 5 for such a brilliant term and we can’t wait to see you next term for ‘Dreams’.
