The Grove Primary School

Year 5

Cedar and Willow

Year 5 have had another fantastic ‘Dreams’ topic – this time focusing on America. In their Geography, they have learnt all about the 50 states, as well some major cities, the history of Indigenous Americans and comparing the similarities and differences between the UK and the USA.

The children particularly enjoyed learning about famous American foods including making their own mini apple pies.

Their DT project was to design their own ideal restaurants after doing market research through a questionnaire on the playground with their peers, ideas ranged from underwater restaurants to food being delivered by remote control cars!

The American links continued to their Writing, where they wrote a travel advert to persuade people to visit the USA and a recipe based on the mini apple pies that they made.
All of this learning built up to the Year 5’s trip to the American Museum in Bath at the end of the term. The children enjoyed exploring the gardens and the museum exhibits as well as a Roadtrip USA workshop that allowed them to further their understanding of the physical geography and how it led to different settlements and trade routes for both indigenous American people and European settlers.

It was a lovely way to celebrate the children’s hard work this term.
